Milan Fashion Week, 2022. Starting off this fashion week amazingly with Diesel, spring/summer 2023 collection by the talented mna himself, Glenn Martens.
Naturally the collection kicked off with many different variations of denim looks that each took on a different texture, color and shape.
My Favorite thing about this collection was the Oversized silhouettes. Most of these silhouettes are made up of denim or leather which is insane to think about in terms of getting that type of fabric to look the way it does. For example, in look 64, the pants are very oversized, however with the extended frayed ad ons the pants themselves looked even more oversized and over the top, this also was seen in look 57, which took on a biker theme, which I love.
I also loved the uncut/unfinished pieces. With the typical faded effect that was also present in last season’s collection. This collection continues this while also keeping a bigger focus on distressing and frayed ad-ons that were seen on many of the different leather pieces. Martens also takes on a different approach to these leather and denim pieces with crocodile being infused with denim and leather styles.
Some standout pieces for me were the metallic belt wrap skirt seen in look 58 as well as look 32 with the crocodile textured wrap belt, the Diesel “D” emblem used as a metal plaque cut out on jackets and belts, and the artisanal coat that was made from Diesel labels. I also loved the different range of shoes, especially the slip-on denim heels and patent leather boots.
The references for this collection were very evident in the multitude of different looks seen. There were references from the army with camouflage designs. In addition to skateboarding and Biker references shown in many of the denim and leather looks that had different styles of distressing. And then a couture piece worn by Ella Snyder for the finale look.
Overall this collection was an amazing highlight for Milan Fashion week.
