For quite some time the internet has been overflowing with many style inspirations as well as fashion history. From Tiktok to Pinterest and Instagram, the internet has been flooded with fashion content and countless outlets for inspiration and creativity.
I love these platforms as much as the next person, and enjoy seeing outfit pics on Instagram and Pinterest, as well as video clips of outfit checks and 3 min styling videos on TikTok. However, I do have to say that my favorite platform for this topic is YouTube. For as long as I can remember, YouTube was always the go to tool for me to not only learn about fashion but also gain certain tips for fashion. I remember when I was just getting into fashion and learning about the different designers and the industry as a whole, I was always on YouTube watching different videos, whether that was runway shows or behind the scenes footage or even documentaries.YouTube was my doorway into the world of fashion and I am sure many young people can say the same. I myself have taken inside knowledge about the fashion industry and have delved deep into learning more about it and shouting out different outlets so that I could gain more knowledge and understanding of a certain designer, band, or even a runway show. I know for some people YouTube isn't the first platform that one would seek out to gain knowledge about fashion so I have put together four of my favorite fashion YouTuber. They are not only cool for their content creation but also for the knowledge that they give their viewers to help those trying to get into the fashion industry and learn more about it.
Bliss Foster
A fashion commentator that is known for his extensive knowledge of fashion and is arguably the most reliable YouTuber you can trust to learn about fashion and what occurs behind the scenes. He explores the stories behind designer clothes and the current state of fashion. As of recently he is doing a series where he dissects Maison Margiela runway shows, which are truly amazing—you should definitely go and check that series out on YouTube. In addition, Bliss also puts elements of literary theory and cultural analysis into his videos that make the overall experience feel like a fun, easy going class that just so happens to talk about your favorite designer. Furthermore, Bliss also does an amazing job at explaining different variations of designers and their runway shows are so complex that it almost seems as if you’re talking to a friend that just happens to know everything about fashion and where things are referenced from and why they are. His unique way he gives his viewers an insight into fashion without the need that you have to have a fashion degree in order to know this type of knowledge is very welcoming and very inspirational. Starting out for Bliss he didn’t even mean to make a YouTube channel where he talked about fashion, until one day he recorded a video about trousers which ultimately inspired him to center his channel around talking about fashion and inspire countless others to do the same. To put it blatant, Bliss Foster’s YouTube is one hundred percent worth a watch.
ModernGurlz
A diligent content creator, ModernGurlz, which is iconic, is a must watch YouTube channel you have to check out. I love ModernGurlz and sometimes obsessively rewatch her videos because to put it clearly they are just that good. Moderngurlz is a female driven outlet that produces educational based videos that dive deep into fashion whether it's in films or anywhere else in the media, ModernGurlz has it covered. She has a remarkable way of enlightening her viewers about a certain aesthetic or a certain clothing item. She has numerous videos where she analyzes and dives deep into fashion moments, fashion history, and our favorite movies growing up. ModernGurlz on is a must watch, especially for those who love fashion and love to look back at iconic outfits in the 90s and early 2000s.
Mina Le
An amazing commentator on fashion and films, Mina is multifaceted as her channel is of her criticizing films and analysing costume design in movies and television shows. Ranging from “The Nanny” to “Avatar: The last Airbender”, Mina does an amazing job at examining certain influences. Mina Le is great to look over if you are not only into fashion but also film and the way in which costume design is so important for telling a story and showing unique parts of a character. Her channel is definitely worth a watch.
Hautlemode
Also known as Luke, Hautlemode is a sassy fashion critic that makes the fashion industry and brands seem more digestible to the normal person. Luke is a fashion critic in the new age of fashion as it continues to expand and his input on different fashion brands and the trends that are occurring is something I myself continue to look for. His critiques on the fashion industry are shameless and very authentic as he does not sugar coat his thoughts when it comes to fashion brands and what they are bringing to the runway, as well as celebrities. He’s not afraid to call something hideous or outright ugly, Luke's voice will be heard even if what he says may come across as bitchy or rude. His numerous videos of analyzing fashion and many fashion brands have landed him as one of the most influential fashion YouTube journalists. I believe his point of view on fashion brands and runway shows isn't overly negative nor complimentary. He's an amazing fashion critic and his YouTube channel is anything but dull as continues to criticize fashion and its current state. You will not be disappointed.
