In 1997, the Crush on you music video by Lil Kim was released and history was made.

Directed by Lance “Un” Riveria, the “Crush on you” music video takes inspiration from the Emerald City scenes in the 1978 musical film “The Wiz”. It is also worth noting that the ‘Crush on You’ music video was the first video to feature different colored wigs that LiL Kim is known for today, along with her iconic style.

With the overall theme being inspired by the Wiz, Kim and her stylist, Misa Hylton curated different monochromatic looks following the different colored themes. Blue, yellow, red, and green, with matching wigs done by Eugene Davis, outfits styled by Misa Hylton, and makeup by NZINGHA. NZINGHA did matching lipstick for each wig and look worn by Kim, except for the Blue look. Instead NZINGHA went for a more neutral lipstick topped with a clear gloss from the beauty supply store. Also worth mentioning, the fur coats worn by Kim were designed by the late, legendary ballroom performer Hector Extravaganza, the founder of the primarily Latin Ballroom house, ‘HOUSE OF EXTRAVAGANZA” (put Beyonce voice). Hector also designed other mink coats for Lil Kim which are iconic till this day.
Side Note: I also want to point out my favorite iconic cameo made in the music video, Aaliyah. In a all blue and yellow tracksuit paired with white tank top, high top Air Forces 1s, and yellow sunglasses (which I wished I knew the brand of).
