A Pink Panther dream.

Directed by Hype Williams, the music video for “Check on it” featuring Bun B was released in December of 2005 on MTV and was also included in The Pink Panther DVD. The music video features Beyoncé in 12 different set ups and outfits all done by her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson and their fashion brand House of Deréon. Many of the outfits incorporated a 1950s theme with many of them being inspired by Josephine Baker. Baker was a huge inspiration for Beyoncé’s character in the Pink Panther film, Xania, and so the music video incorporated this into many scenes. One look in particular being the pink satin dress that she wears as she sings so beautifully to the camera or the dance performance scene where Beyoncé and her dancers, Lesley N. Lewis, Aisha Francis, and Danielle Polanco, all dance with chairs whilst wearing baby pink satin dresses with rippling satin sheets in the background.

One look in particular that I have always loved and wanted to recreate as a child was the Pink Panther jeans and pink pvc motorcycle jacket that Beyoncé wears for one of the dancing scenes with her dancers. For this look Beyoncé went for a more Grease (1978) theme while also incorporating a 1950s feel with her hair which was styled in a duck tale, which was a very popular style of hair cut for men during the 1950s.
Since the “Check on it” music video features 12 different set ups and outfits, it’s the perfect concept for any Halloween look.
